Episode Summary:

Fintech has revolutionized the financial sector. With the ease of doing transactions becoming more widespread, significant progress towards financial inclusivity has been made. In this episode, Halima Iqbal, CEO & Founder Oraan, joins us to talk about the need for Fintech. Halima explores what Fintech is, how Fintech has been performing in emerging markets, the inevitable constraints and what opportunities it brings.

Show Notes:

  1. Women in finance are limited in emerging markets. Women are not considered economically viable and so that makes the financial space to be male dominant.
  2. When building for solutions, you need to take into account the kind of problems people face - be it social, cultural, political or geographical.
  3. Fintech companies simplify the entire experience without becoming extremely intrusive the way banks do when it comes to availing financial services.
  4. Even with the ecommerce boom in emerging markets like Pakistan, there is still a very heavy dependency on cash owing to the lack of trust between the formal and informal sector, and so it requires a whole infrastructural shift to bring a change in this financial ecosystem.

(This episode is hosted by Amna Omer, Global Communications Manager, Tkxel.)
